Meet Danielle Stephen, Acting Operations Manager at RSWA. Dani has worked for RSWA for two years and is one of our key personnel. Her specialties include Radiological Monitoring, Compliance Testing and Training Management.
What does your typical day look like? What does your job entail?
A day in the life at Radsol can vary. My days generally consist of a variety of tasks from project management of long-term clients, and technical support to the team to even running to the shop to make sure we have coffee to keep us going. Some days can also include coordinating training courses or even jumping on a plane before sunrise to the middle of nowhere with no reception. Although my role entails a lot of variety, I thoroughly enjoy the different aspects of work that come with being a part of the Radsol team!
How did you get started in the industry?
I originally started working in the Radiation Industry 12 years ago in an administration role, developing Laboratory and Office Procedures. I then completed my Certificate III in Laboratory Skills (Specialising in Mineral Assay), and Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (Specialising in Radiation Measurement) moving on to a Laboratory Manager position. I sat numerous Radiation Safety Training Courses and obtained multiple Radiation Licences in WA, QLD & NT to enable me to carry out the work I do now.
What have you gained from working at Radsol?
During my time at RSWA, I have been able to enjoy a mix of office and technical site work. Carrying out multiple site visits around WA has allowed me to gain invaluable on-the-job experience in the Radiation Industry. Being able to travel to places in WA that I would have never thought to travel too have also been great personal experience for me. I spent 12 months in 2021 studying (and completing) Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety which is incorporated into my daily work life at Radsol.
On a personal note – tell us one thing on your bucket list?
I’ve never been much of a traveller, but after visiting more sites throughout this year and seeing this wonderful state from above, I would have to say travelling the outback & coastal WA with my 12-year-old son, in a 4wd would be number 1 on the top of my list!
